At a time when stimulation ilof economic development has become a dominant interest throughout the western world, an approach currently taking shape in the city of Cincinnati in Ohio, US, offers a pointer to the important part that regional water industry interests might play. Following a suggestion by US EPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency), the several arms of a multi-faceted industry in this region around the junction of the three states of Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana warmed to the idea of establishing an innovation cluster for water technology. Several stakeholder meetings took in a comprehensive range of local interests and led to formation of a local steering committee and subsequently, with strong practical support from US EPA, to the establishment of the Water Technology Innovation Cluster in mid-January this year.
