The Transportation Security Administration and the Science & Technology Directorate are seeking information for the development of a prototype advanced X-ray system as part of its "Manhattan II" explosives research project, the name given to the Department's efforts to develop the next generation of checked baggage screening systems. In an Aug. 12 notice, DHS says it is specifically looking for Coherent X-ray Scattering technology and Diffraction systems. "The Coherent X-ray Scattering (CXS) Project is a critical element in the broader Manhattan II and Explosives Research programs aimed at stimulating commercial industry development and integration of key enabling technologies, subsystems and advanced algorithms for application to next generation checked baggage systems that provide improved performance and affordability characteristics," the notice states.
