摘要

A comparative study on laser beam welding of unalloyed and high-alloy steels using three shielding gas mixtures based on argon with active oxygen and/or carbon dioxide contents is presented. The experimental results show that the power limits of a 1-kW-Nd:YAG laser beam welding unit can be extended by using the mixed gases in place of the conventional shielding gases (argon, helium, nitrogen), in as much as welding can be deeper and faster. Moreover, the effect of different gas flow rates on welding-in properties was observed and the mechanical and technological properties of the joints produced were investigated.
