Italian grocery retailer Esselunga has posted steady sales growthnfor 2010 against a backdrop of weak domestic demand. The firm’snoverall sales increased by 5% to reach EUR6.54bn while same-storensales advanced by 2%. The firm also reported rising net profits,nwith earnings up by 14% to EUR213mn. However, it admitted thatnthis growth was entirely the result of a change in IFRS accountingnstandards and on an underlying basis their earnings would havenactually fell by around 8%.
