Strong sales growth at Belgium brewer Duvel Moortgart and USbasednCraft Brewers Alliance (CBA) continues to point to growingndemand for specialist and craft beers. However, the most recent quarterlynresults from CBA point to the difficulties that smaller firms cannhave in maintaining margins at the same time as attempting to grownsales. For the first quarter of 2011, CBA registered an 18% increasenin net sales, which reached US$32.2mn, but registered an operatingnloss of US$61,000 compared to a profit of US$642,000 a year ago.nThis pressure is expected to continue driving consolidation in thenindustry, particularly now that major multinationals are becomingnincreasingly enamoured with the craft and specialist sectors
