The Latest: Telenor is to acquire 54% of Finnish telco DNA for a total of EUR1.5bn. Implications: With this move, Telenor will strengthen further its position in the Nordic region, as the operator is already present in neighbouring Norway, Sweden and Denmark. By acquiring operations in Finland, Telenor will be able to leverage its expertise and knowledge of the region’s dynamics and competitors, a considerable advantage for a company when entering a new market. The strategic choice of focusing on the core Nordic market was already evident in 2018, when Telenor sold its operations in Central and Eastern Europe as rivals Telia and Tele2 were leading a wave of consolidation in Scandinavia.
