In this work, two types of commercially available compactnfluorescent lamps (CFL) were investigated for intensity variationndue to mechanical vibrations in the range of 0 to 30 Hz. Inngeneral, subjecting the lamps to 24-hour vibration affects the totalnintensity. Percentage variations of peak intensities afternvibrations is in the range of u0001 10 to u0001 35 percent in case of CFLn(Nuvue), whereas for the CFL (Ecosmart), it is in the range of -10nto u0001 10 percent. Continuous vibration measurements at variousnvibrational frequencies (intensity measurements at each frequencynafter subjecting the unit to mechanical vibrations for 10 minutes)nshow that the CFL luminaires, exhibits a peak in intensity at anvibrational frequency around 25 Hz for a wavelength of 546.78nnm (wavelength of maximum human sensitivity). Intensitynvariation effects due to vibration are attributed to the dropping offnloose phosphor coatings in the inside wall of the glass enclosures.nThis hypothesis needs to be investigated further.
