摘要

The Illuminating Engineering Society has a long history of providing design guidance to the lighting design community. The earliest manifestation of this was a series of committee reports issued in the first decades of the 20th century. They quoted illuminances values in schools and offices that were considered good practice. At the time, the values were described as "guidance"; "recommendation" was not used. By the time the first edition of the Lighting Handbook was issued in 1947, these values had increased and become recommendations.
