Lighting professionals are being pressed with responsibilities unique in the history of the profession and for which they have, I believe, generally inadequate resources. These new responsibilities are all broadly related to two developments: the need to acquire a sufficiently detailed and complete understanding of the rapidly changing technological, implementation and performance challenges of specifying solid state lighting; and the growing awareness of and concern about the relationship between light and health.
