Each time your users access a shared network folder, Windows 2000, XP, and Vista automatically create a shortcut to that folder in My Network Places (called Network or Network Locations in Vista). The clutter can build up and slow your efforts down as users hunt for answers. Also, shortcuts to network resources risk security by making it easier for hackers and malware to locate vulnerable shares. Fortunately, you can delete the existing shortcuts, and then use group policy to stop Windows from creating new ones.
