I can't stand Vista's User Account Control. Even with its improvements over Vista Beta 1,1 still spend too much time interacting with the UAC dialog box. Can I disable it? As we told you in the November 2006 article "Take control of security and offer user-friendly interfaces with Vista," Microsoft designed UAC to block standard users from installing malware and messing up their system configurations. It also hinders malware from taking hold on a system when a local admin user logs in. While it may not bother your average user, it's downright irritating for IT pros. To help, we'll tell you when you should leave UAC enabled, and how to configure Vista to elevate to your admin token without all the prompts.
