Carriers have long wanted to add enhanced data services to the mix, if only because it gives them more room to manipulate prices. Customers are a recalcitrant lot though, and it's hard to make them pony up more cash for something they're not even sure they want. Combined with the crude pricing options created by legacy billing systems, carriers' data efforts have been less than inspiring so far.
