In old photographs of Marblehead,Massachusetts,ancient clapboard houses with shingled roofs line narrow dirt streets that wind their way down to the harbor.At the harbor,more old houses,fisherman's shanties,and boatyards dot the shoreline.In the harbor itself are all sorts of boats,from visiting steam yachts to gaff-rigged sloops,fishing dories,and almost everything in between.Today,should you have the good fortune to explore the harbor,you will find a wide variety of today's popular racing sailboats.Long gone are once-numerous racing dories and the aptly named,cat-rigged Brutal Beast.On the moorings instead are fiberglass Atlantics and Corinthians,Rhodes 19s and Etchells 22s,Ensigns,International One-Designs,and other classes.
