摘要

The Disappearing Propeller Motor Boat,commonly known as the "Dispro," was invented and patented in 1915 by skiff and launch builder WJ.'Billy' Johnston of Port Carling,Ontario,Canada.The basic hull is a 16'double-ended lapstrake rowing skiff; it is driven by a small 2-hp Waterman Copper Jacket motor coupled to the patented disappearing-propeller 'Device.' The Device contains a universal joint on the propeller shaft and a hinged skeg that also functions as a propeller guard.The operator can raise the propeller into the metal housing so it's flush to the keel,to facilitate beaching and to control the boat's speed.If the skeg were impacted underway,it would swing upward in the housing and protect the propeller.
