Ever since I heard about this Novi boat nearly 30 years ago while Bill Mayher and I were collaborating on an article about the lobsterboats of Grand Manan (see WB No.45),BONNY BRIDE has been in my sights.She's special because she's the last boat Gleason Green ordered,and he had had dozens of Novi boats constructed,each an improvement over its predecessor.Instrumental in improving this type and spreading the boats beyond his Grand Manan home waters,Green worked with the Doucette brothers,Roy and Herman,to create one after another-some on speculation and others pre-sold-for lobstermen in Maine as well as eastern Canada.In his final effort,he ordered BONNY BRIDE for himself.To my eye,she's the handsomest Novi boat I've ever seen.I've kept track of her whereabouts since 1981,dreaming of how nice it would be own her.
