摘要

The classic yacht movement, which this magazine has helped create and lead, has spawned two offspring during its history of roughly a quarter century. One is an international fleet of restorations and replicas. The other is a new type of maritime book about those vessels-volumes of sprawling size with an extravagant display of four-color photographs of several boats, with a text of euphoric celebration and attention to the smallest detail. Many of these books originated in Europe, and that is true of Classic Yachts, an almost entirely French production with photographs by Gilles Martin-Raget and text by Francois Chevalier. This English-language edition includes a foreword by the Very American Gary Jobson, who describes the pleasures of sailing in great yachts.
