Alec Brainerd of Artisan Boat-works, Rockport, Maine, sends the following series of questions concerning boat storage: "To answer our rapidly growing need for indoor wooden boat storage, last fall we erected a 30' × 50' fabric 'ClearSpan' building on a gravel pad. Southern exposure and a dark green cover caused the inside temperature, at times, to reach over 100 degrees. The ends are wooden-framed walls, there is a 12' × 26' roll-up door at one end, peak vents at both, and a 2' skirt around the base. In order to reduce the temperature on hot days we often left the doors open to promote airflow.
