The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently completed a 5.7-mi.-long, US$25.7M reinforcement project in Grand Isle, Louisiana (LA), by inserting geotextile tubes into the sand dunes that will provide added resiliency in the face of oncoming hurricanes.rn"After Hurricanes Gustav and Ike passed in 2008 and damaged the post-Katrina and Rita repairs we were making, we realized that we needed to do something different," said Chris Gilmore, Corps senior project manager for Grand Isle. "We needed to make the dune stronger and more resilient."
