Ray Bergeron entered the marine industry when he purchased Liquid Lassie a 5000-barrel oil tanker as scrap and established a Canadian Company that he called the L. B. Tanker. In 1980 he converted the Liquid Lassie into the largest push barge on the Great Lakes. Throughout the eighties he managed and used the Liquid Lassie to transport liquid materials around the Great Lakes.
