Pacifie pile & Marine, a major Washington (WA) state marine contractor, has been a proponent of GPS use in their projects for a while now. In a recent waterfront cleanup project, however, the advantages of the technology, particularly a new machine control system they had purchased, were immediate and numerous. Those benefits included a savings in time, a better degree of accuracy, and a greatly reduced risk factor. -From an economic standpoint, the Seattle-based company says it didn't fare too badly either: they anticipate that the new system, a Topcon X63 3D, will have paid for itself in savings by completion of its first project. In a sense, they cleaned up there as well.
