Ihc Merwede recently received an order to construction a 30,000 m~3 jumbo trailing suction hopper (TH) dredge for Belgian contractor DEME (Dredging, Environmental and Marine Engineering NV). Thern| contract for the ship has gone to IHC Dredgers BV and construction will take place at the IHC Krimpen Shipyard in Krimpen aan den Ussel. Completion is planned for mid-2011.rnThe ship has a relatively shallow draught of 12 m and it can be used in a wide range of operations. The other dimensions of the ship are based on the principles elaborated in the series of trailing suction hopper (TH) dredges built recently for DEME. The vessel is 168 m long and it has a maximum dredging depth of 56 m.rnThis is the 90th dredging vessel to be produced by IHC Merwede for DEME. The 88th ship, the 5,600 m~3 TH dredge ARTEVELDE, was launched on 19 December of 2008 at the IHC Beaver Dredgers yard in Sliedrecht.
