D'Artagnan, the technically outstanding self-propelled and ocean-going jumbo cutter suction (CS) dredge of French dredging contractor SDI (Soci-ete de Dragage International SA), a subsidiary of the Belgian group DEME will be a piece of revolutionary technology. The vessel is designed for dredging sand and rock with 8,150 hp. The dredge has an overall length of about 124 m, is 25.2 m wide and is able to dredge in very hard rocky soils up to a depth of 35 m. D'Artagnan will be equipped with a barge-loading system. The vessel was launched on April 22nd and delivery is anticipated for September 2005. This dredge, designed to work in hard rock will be equipped with a third generation cutting system, developed and supplied by Vosta LMG.
