Many of the dredging majors have turned away from in-house solutions for survey-ing and monitoring tasks. Boskalis, in contrast, continues to favour the development of in-house software. This month sees the completion yet another module in an extensive software development program, spanning several years, to complete a full suite of modules for surveying and monitoring of the dredging process. The origins of the project can be traced back to 1987 and the introduction of the DredgeView 1 package, developed in-house by the Boskalis R&D Department. Unusually, this division includes the survey organisation. The survey teams of most majors form part of the Dredging Department or survey is regarded as an isolated function. The Boskalis surveyors, however, are closely aligned to the R&D Department's groups responsible to new software concepts and concept development.
