摘要

We examined the impact of spillovers from local foreign multinationals on the productivity of Hungarian firms. We used a sample of 11,767 Hungarian firms and their activities between 1993 and 2002. We analysed how Hungarian firms' productivity responds to the expansion of multinational firms in Hungary.rnWe documented heterogeneity among Hungarian firms with respect to their productivity and analysed whether more productive and larger firms are able to reap more benefit from spillovers of multinational firms. We used simultaneous quantile regression to analyse whether the effect of spillovers from multinationals differs between different groups of productive firms. We found significant differences among groups. The presence of multinationals in the same industry increases competition on goods and factor markets and reduces the productivity of the least productive firms. More productive firms benefit more from horizontal spillovers.
