The soccer federations of Italy and Spain on November 30 won an important intellectual property victory in Brazil on an issue involving the use of the names of their teams in a Brazilian sports lottery. In 1998, Brazil's congress approved a law which set a division of the revenues from a federal lottery based on the results of soccer games. The lottery, which still exists, awards prizes to bettors who are able to choose correctly the winners of between 13 and 14 games played each week.
