I recently attended an interesting Workshop on Nanotechnology and IPR in Brussels. This is of course an area of major interest to people from a variety of disciplines. There were widely divergent views expressed by both those presenting a paper and the invited delegates. Three members of our Editorial Advisory Board were involved with the organisation of, or contributed to, the Workshop - Martin Meyer (SPRU), Dr Jaiya (WIPO) and Jens Gaster (EC). New technology areas evolving almost always spawn debates on whether existing IPR protection options can accommodate the technology. If so, in what way - are modifications to the law needed? If not, then what new form of IP is needed?
