In common with its competitors, Imperial Tobacco is having to respond to the trend for downtrading that is evident in the Roll Your Own (RYO) market. With governments seeing increased cigarette taxes as an easy source of revenue, many smokers are downtrading either from premium to Value For Money cigarettes or, increasingly, from cigarettes to RYO/MYO.rnOver 4mn adult smokers in the UK RYO during the week but tend to smoke cigarettes at the weekend; they are therefore looking for a smoother blend RYO since their preferences lie closer to cigarette brands.
