AgriSense has developed a combined pheromorie lure and trap for monitoring insect pests in cured tobacco, writes Dr TERRY MABBETT. Post harvest tobacco, cured and with an increased concentration of nicotine, should be the last commodity to support the feeding activities of insect pests. But this high value product, either in the form of cured raw tobacco or manufactured tobacco, is susceptible to the feeding activities of two highly damaging insect pests: the tobacco beetle (Lasioderma serricorne) and larvae of the tobacco moth (Ephestia elutella).
