Packaging is a vital component of tobacco products that impacts on everything from aesthetic appeal to integrity. Little wonder then that so much investment is being made in film capacities and products. POLO (Polipropileno Biori-entado) is due to double its annual capacity of BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) film to 60,000 tonnes by the end of this year when an additional 30,000 tonnes of capacity comes on-line at its Montenegro plant in the south of Brazil, where it is installing a state-of-the-art line. Currently, the company manufactures 30,000 tonnes a year, 18,000 tonnes at its Montenegro plant in Rio Grande do Sul and the rest at a factory at Varginha, in central Brazil.
