Philip Morris continued to dominate its home US cigarette market with Marlboro increasing its share from 38.1% to 39.6% in Q3. PM's total share rose from 48,8% to 49.9% boosted by the launches of Virginia Slims Ultra Lights 120mm box and Parliament Lights 100mm round corner box. But it was again outside the US where the company made major gains. International sales rose 7% to $ 1.8Bn in the quarter. Increased sales in Austria, Belgium, Egypt, France, Greece, Japan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Turkey and the Ukraine more than made up for falls in Germany and France where tax hikes hit turnover.
