While Europe's cigarette, cigar and pipe smokers fume at the prospect of yet more restrictions on when and where they can light up, suppliers of smokeless tobacco should, in theory, be rubbing their hands together with glee. But there is an exception. Smoking bans seem to be sprouting up all across the continent. As well as restricting smoking in the workplace, companies, councils and countries are falling over each other in the rush to prevent lighting up in public places, The smoke-filled Irish pub has been condemned to history and Liverpool City Council and the Scottish Parliament are eager to jump on the bandwagon.
