Lanes for Drains, an engineering company based in Derby, UK, has used a 'pig' to unblock a newly-installed gas main feeding into a school, despite having a state-of-the-art jet-vac tanker. Any delay in unblocking the pipe would have led to a delay in the school's completion. "The pipe had been laid, but not capped," said Chris Norbury, Lanes for Drains' East Midlands area development manager, the UK's largest independent drainage specialist. "When it rained, silt and debris were washed into the pipe and caused a blockage. Because the pipe was undulating up and down, within the ground, it wasn't possible to use a jet-vac to clean it out, so we turned to older technology, poly-pigging, to get the job done."
