Die Proteste gegen den Umgang mit der Finanzkrise sind einerseits Ausdruck der Verzweiflung der abstiegsbedrohten Mittelklasse. Andererseits zeigt sich in ihnen aber auch ein produktives Moment: Die Platzbesetzungen werden zum Ausdruck des unmittelbaren Bedürfnisse: sich auszutauschen und jenseits bestehender politischer Institutionen selbst zu organisieren. Die Krise der politischen Repräsentation bringt so neue Erfahrungen demokratischer Selbstermächtigung hervor.%The character of the protests scandalizing the politics of the financial crisis is twofold. On the one hand, they are an expression of despair from a middle class threatened by social decline. On the other hand, the protests carry a productive momentum. The occupied squares become an expression of the immediate need to exchange and organize beyond pre-existing political institutions. Thus, the crisis of political representation produces experiences of democratic empowerment.
