摘要

Civil society and social capital are considered central preconditions for social and political integration of modern societies. However, civil society and social capital are no longer seen as a cure-all. The once dominant euphoric perspective has been pushed aside for a more sober, critical point of view that underscores the limitations and shortcomings of the civil-society and the social-capital concepts, revealing their "dark sides". The authors of the reader "Civil Society and Social Capital - Challenges of Social and Political Integration" present critical aspects of the theoretical foundations of these concepts, offering conceptual and empirical innovations. One of the most important innovations is the application of these notions to ethnic communities.
