Taxi political culture: Impact on regulation vs. deregulation in New York City and London.

摘要

While the cities of London and New York are both classified as global cities, a number of institutions, businesses, aspects of government and industries are still a product of each city's unique political culture and sub culture. London happens to the most bustling city in Europe, but while it is full of activity there is much attraction to the English countryside. New York City, also the most overwhelming city in America holds an appeal much different than that of England's. One example of a business shaped by this sub culture amongst both cities is the taxi industry. Prompted by the 100th anniversary of the New York City taxi, a number of research studies were performed and authors wrote literature with the focus on the taxi culture and the cultural political life of urban areas such as New York and its cousin city, London. The whole taxi cab culture was analyzed within these two major cities in order to compare regulations and non regulated areas. Each city's specific rules governing the taxi industry is a result of its unique political culture in which it is shaped.
