摘要

This chapter attempts to place the whole endeavor of the Space Age into a global historical context. The motivation for exploration that human history has chronicled, according to the author throughout the history of our species, has had less to do with any innate curiosity, and more to do with political realities, (i.e. Schisms in society, as in the Puritans leaving England, or the recent space exploration as an extension of the Cold War.) In this light, the author is uncertain as to the long term ventures into space.
