Chattanooga Gas Co. (CGC) is helping home builders get new residential construction approved and sold faster with a program called "MeterExpress." The program allows the meter to be installed within 48 hours of the service line installation and puts the builder in control of mechanical inspection and appliance light up.In the new program, gas service is left available up to the integral outlet valve on the meter. Once the house passes inspection, a licensed HVAC/plumbing contractor can tie in the home's fuel line to the outlet valve, turn on the gas and light the appliances. CGC says there is a time and cost savings because utility technicians no longer will be needed to go into new facilities and light appliances. Instead builders can handle the timing and execution.To achieve quick meter installation, CGC says it will be using a new one-piece meter loop and outlet valve that is welded at the factory and does not require on-site assembly.
