Columbia Gas of Ohio successfully uses two types of daily demand forecasts to ensure that its gas supply and capacity assets are in line with the expected customer demand.The two forecast types are the design day forecast and the daily operational forecast.The design day forecast is used for supply and capacity portfolio planning. If it is not accurate, the company may riot contract for the proper supply and capacity assets. This could place its customers at economic or service risk.The daily operational forecast is used to balance demand and supply each day of the year. If the daily operational forecast is too low, supplies may not be adequate, creating an exposure to penalties. If the daily operational forecast is too high, unneeded operational action may be taken.
