On May 11, 2000, the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, chaired by Sen. John McCain, held a hearing on Reautho-rization of the Pipeline Safety Act. In his opening statement, Sen. McCain stated that, "In our effort to reauthorize and improve federal pipe line safety programs, today's hearing is designed to obtain input from public safety advocates, the NTSB, DOT and its inspector general, industry and others interested in promoting pipe line safety."
