If there was ever a time to think about opportunities to reduce dependence on oil, now is that time. One such way is to build up the market for natural gas vehicles (NGVs). They work, they're clean burning and they're good to have around the house. The Energy Policy Act of 1992 established requirements for the purchase of alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) by fleets operated by state governments and providers of alternate fuels. The purpose of the requirements was to promote the use of non-petroleum fuels. It also called for the creation of programs for accelerating the introduction of AFVs to replace conventional models fuel by gasoline. Getting a little closer to the point, it's "NGVs: The right answer, right now!" It was the theme for the recent NGVD National Conference.NGVs come in all shapes and sizes, from heavy duty to light duty, from boutique to king-size. There are a lot of good people out there working at making NGVs as commonplace as salt shakers. From designing and fabricating the right hardware to generating useful software, from dedicated people to fantastic machines, all making progress with room for more.
