Standards set by the Gas Industry Standards Board (GISB) have helped the natural gas industry transform its marketplace from a traditional, paper-driven operation to an almost instantaneous, Web-based process.Since its inception in 1994, GISB has adopted some 400 business practices and some 70 interpretations, and more than 40 transactions have been standardized for electronic communication using the Internet, interactive websites, and flat file transferals. These standards are credited with having helped transform the gas marketplace, making it far more competitive, transparent and dynamic.In recent years, GISB standards have been used to develop Internet software, security, and help assure website interoperability.
