摘要

When Intel rolled out its Atom processor targeted at the mobile Internet device (MID) market, reviewers were ambivalent. The technology was impressive, but the power specifications were still a long way from challenging ARM, who has long had a lock on the cell phone processor market. So Intel set out to establish a new class of products where it could take the lead: MIDs, more recently called netbooks. a cross between a cell phone and a notebook-a true mid-market device. The form factor was larger than a cell phone, so battery life wasn't quite so critical. Cynics looked at MIDs as the reincarnation of the ultra-mobile PC (UMPC), a category that had never gained much traction.
