SINCE my family moved to O'Fallon, we've got every sort of retail store you could ever imagine within just a few miles of our home. It's pretty much paradise for my wife. Yet, I find myself missing Kenny's Ace Hardware in Mount Zion. It wasn't that Kenny's had different or better merchandise than a Lowe's or Home Depot. Kenny's had something else that's becoming increasingly hard to find in the world — good service. I remember walking in numerous times with plumbing valves, circuit breakers and pieces of drain pipe. It's funny how a man walking into a hardware/parts store with something wrapped in a shop towel looks vaguely like a heartbroken child returning a hamster to a pet store.
