Metastatic prostate cancer: abi-raterone to delay pain and, possibly, death. When metastatic prostate cancer progresses despite androgen suppression but symptoms do not warrant cytotoxic therapy, abiraterone delays the onset of cancer symptoms by several months and may prolong overall survival. More data are needed on its cardiac and hepatic adverse effects (Prescrire Int n° 146). Bladder cancer and BCG: well-designed packaging. When immunotherapy with intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) is chosen to treat bladder cancer, BCG strain RIVM seems to have a harm-benefit balance similar to that of other strains; its advantage lies in safer, better-designed packaging (Prescrire Int n° 146).
