摘要

Research reveals that discharge rates and nutrient loadings from the Burdekin River Irrigation Area, south of Townsville, are increasing due to greater irrigation tailwater volumes, rather than to rainfall run-off. But scientists remain undecided about the long term environmental effects of the expanding region on the Great Barrier Reef lagoon and downstream coastal wetlands such as the recently heritage-listed Cape Bowling Green National Park.
