Lyondell Chemical has said it has developed a direct oxidation technology to convert propylene, hydrogen, and oxygen into propylene oxide (PO). The company has announced plans to build a pilot plant at Newtown Square, PA to further develop the process for commercialization. The company would not disclose process details, but says that the technology will have a 10 cents/lb production cost advantage over building a plant using existing PO processes mainly because it has much lower capital costs. It will not offer the technology for license.
