Many steel prices have eased over the last month. While they look to be stabilizing across the globe, mills in the United States are pushing for a $4o/short-ton price increase for most steel grades. This is on the back of an improving demand picture and limited inventories through the supply chain. Also, the latest earnings figures show another quarter of losses at US mills, so this rise is also justified on the need to return to profit. However, with the arrival of Thanksgiving, orders will be subdued and so further price rises are unlikely until the New Year.
