PV Module Reliability Scorecard: While nothing can rival data from the field, accelerated testing can reveal telling module quality and performance. DNV GL's Laboratory Services Group, founded by Jenya Meydbray, has carried out testing on some 30 different manufacturers as a part of its Product Qualification Program. The results contain some intriguing insights, Thermal Cycling results are presented here. By some metrics the solar industry is over 60 years old - the first solar panel ever made in 1964 at Bell Labs is still operating in an AT&T Museum. By other metrics the solar industry is just now emerging - 85% of the 234 GW of installed global PV capacity has been in the field for less than five years. The industry has tremendous potential and growth ahead of it as long as the industry can continue to maintain quality and continue to hone energy prediction methods.
