There are 2 major issues related to the treatment of large bladder tumors: the often difficult to find small size satellite or concomitant lesion (usually Stage pTa and carcinoma in situ) and the sometimes challenging endoscopic removal of the large size tumor bulk.Although standard white light cystoscopy was described as a rather blunt tool for achieving an accurate detection of flat or small papillary tumors, narrow band imaging (NBI) cystoscopy has begun to show significant progress concerning the diagnostic accuracy of nonmuscle-invasive bladder tumor detection, of course requiring further confirmation. The present study followed this perspective and emphasized improved tumor detec-tion specific to NBI cystoscopy, which later translated into a significantly lower medium-term recurrence rate.
