Florida citrus industry leaders have begun considering a successor to the Florida Department of Citrus should the DOC lose the legal battle over the box tax. "Clearly within a year or less, we could have a Florida Supreme Court ruling against the boxtax, and that's the end of the road," state Sen. J.D. Alexander, R-Lake Wales, told The Ledger in Lakeland. Alexander said he feared the Supreme Court's ruling on the box tax lawsuit would come while the Legislature was out of session, thus depriving lawmakers of the opportunity to alnend the law and keep the Citrus Department in business.
